Hi.  Pleased to meet you.

I wanted to drop you a note to tell you how you've impacted my life by affording me the opportunity to do what I love...   I couldn't think of anything slick, smooth or profound enough to capture what I feel so I decided to allow my poetry to speak for me.  The first piece is entitled Soul Power and it speaks to my purpose.  The second piece entitled Gratitude speaks to you.  Thanks!

Soul Power

Sometimes I’ve got to fight to write, Hustle all day and cry through the night

Swallow my pride, Sell my ride

For a bus pass, So my dream can last

Give up my fly Versace wear, To finance my booth at the local fair

It gets hard on a Sista.  Write on?

Hock my diamonds and my pearls, to give free books to little boys and girls

forgotten by the system, even their parents diss them

As we stand in unity pumping our fists in the air, seventy percent of us  -   really don’t care

Power to the people.  Write on?

Sometimes I grow weary and question myself, miss my fine things and feel nothing’s left

and wonder why I choose to live this way, working like a slave for menial pay

All for the cause... write on?

Then a child recites a line from one of my books

and proudly professes she loves how she looks

Because of her, I’ll give it a thousand more tries

Understanding where my purpose lies.

affirming my decisions... satisfying all my needs

through that child’s eyes my soul is freed.

Our spirits connect, though physically she’s gone

Her innocent pleads linger, “Write on?  Sista...  Write on!

Gratitude

I wish I could write your happy endings

paint you strokes of glee

I wish I could give you just a touch

of the joy  you give to me...

Thanks.
